How Safe Do You Feel Going To Hospital To Be Cured

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alfred_Jones] Alfred Jones There has been a lot of concern in Australia over the performance of an overseas trained Doctor that had been made Director of Surgery in a regional city. Currently there is a Commission of Inquiry into the allegations that have been made against this Doctor and in the interim report that has been released and passed to the State Government, there are serious concerns that this Doctor could face charges of Murder, because at the moment, there is evidence that at least 87 people have died as a result of surgery performed by this Doctor. The accusations are that he was performing surgery that was completely above his abilities and the facilities of the hospital concerned, all deaths are considered to be the result of botched surgery. This doctor had already been banned from performing surgery in the United States, his records were obviously not fully checked when he got the position in Australia. He has now fled the country and he is believed to be living in the United States once again. There are hundreds of people here that have been operated on by this doctor, and their life has never been the same again, a large number requiring further surgery to relieve the problems caused by previous surgery. I know that there are many good doctors and surgeons out there that do wonderful work, and millions of lives have been saved by the efforts of these great men and women. However, there is also concern about a report just released in Australia which states that on average about 50 people die per day in Australia as a result of botched surgery. Australia is considered to have a world-class health system and that doctors here are up with the best of them. What concerns me is that if we have 50 per day dying with a population of 20 millions, is this also happening in other civilized nations with a greater population, It does not say much for world health. If you have any doubts about the doctor that has fled the country, just look in any search engine for Doctor Jayant Patel. The local Police Chief of Jamnagar, the town in India, where this doctor originated, states in a Newspaper, This is very big news in Australia where life has more value, but it is of less interest here. I think thats sums up the story very well; I am just very pleased that I am not living there. His Timing is Perfect

By Rebecca Livermore As the German pastor shared his vision for a time of reconciliation between Germans and Jews in the Olympic Stadium in West Berlin, I could barely contain myself. What he planned to do was unprecedented, and my sense was that God was clearly in it. When he gave the Macedonian call to Come over and help us, it was all I could do to keep from being catapulted from my seat! I wanted to say, Yes! Ill come! After the service I made a beeline toward this pastor. When I got home from church, I read and reread information he gave me; the more I read, the more excited I became. I could just picture myself in the Olympic Stadium, worshipping and proclaiming Jesus together with people from every nation. An incredible thing began to take place in my life, something I had never experienced before; I began to truly intercede for this pastor, for his family, and for the planned event. I prayed like I had never prayed before, often waking up in the middle of the night, with an overwhelming compulsion to pray. God impressed Scriptures on my heart to pray for the pastor, the church, and the people in Berlin. I just knew that God had something special for me in Berlin! Unfortunately, I was a single, 19-year-old girl, without the resources (namely money) to make a trip to Berlin. But that didnt worry me. God was so clearly in me going, that surely He was going to make a way. After all, with God all things are possible, right? But when it came close to the time of the rally, and I still didnt have anything more than a dream, I had to accept the reality that it wasnt going to happen. My dream had died. I took this to the Lord in prayer. I didnt question His goodness or love for me, but I couldnt understand why He gave me such a passion to go to Berlin and then slammed the door in my face. I found the answer in the pages of Scripture. Romans 1:8- 13 was Gods specific, clear, unmistakable answer to the question of my heart. It reads, First, I think my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. For God is my witness, who I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles. Those words were written by Paul, but they could have been written by me! How I prayed for these people! How I wanted to find a way in the will of God to come to them! How I longed to see them! And just like Paul, I had been hindered from going. When I read the words, That I may impart to you some spiritual gift I sensed the Lord speaking to me, Rebecca, there will come a time when you will go to Berlin, but if you go now, you will be going with nothing to impart to the people there. You will go in the future, and when you do, you will be going with something to impart. That was my answer, and I gladly embraced it. I kept praying for the people of Berlin and for this local church pastor. God regularly impressed Scriptures on my heart for him, and I began writing them down and mailing them to him. In my letters, I didnt tell him anything about my passion for the people of Germany, or of my unfulfilled desire to go to Berlin. My letters were totally focused on his ministry, and what I felt God was prompting me to pray for him. Rather than dissipating, my passion and burden for Germany increased, so much so that I decided to take some German language courses. In passing, I mentioned this in one of my letters to the pastor. He wrote back, If you want to learn German, the best way is for you to come here. If youd like to do that, I can arrange for you to stay with a woman in my congregation. Wow! This time the money was in the bank, and Id have a free place to stay. How exciting! So, about a year after my initial desire to go to Berlin, I found myself on a plane, headed to Europe. Amazingly enough, I had forgotten all about the passage of Scripture in Romans and Gods promise to me, but God had not forgotten. He was faithful to do what He had promised. Shortly after I buckled my safety belt on the plane, the passage in Romans came back to me. I prayed, Oh Lord, you said I would go with something to impart, but what do I have to impart to the people of Berlin? I have nothing! I know nothing! I have no speaking engagements, and no one even knows of my desire to minister. The pastor just thinks I want to learn German. God, is this a mistake? Mistake or no, there was nothing I could do about it; the plane had taken off and I was on my way to Berlin. A few days after my arrival, Sunday rolled around, so of course we went to church. By German standards, the church was huge, with approximately 1000 people. From across the sanctuary, I noticed a woman staring at me. This continued off and on throughout the service. I had no idea who she was, but I was determined to talk to her after the service. But when the service ended, the woman I was staying with introduced me to people around us, and by the time that finished, the mystery woman had disappeared. Later that week, I was invited to go to the church to help with mailing out a magazine the church produced. Shortly after arrival at the church, I ran into the mystery woman who had been staring at me during church. Come to find out, she was the childrens education director at the church which was exactly what I did in my church in California. After chatting for awhile, she asked me if I would like to go to a teachers training meeting that night. I agreed to go. After the meeting, she asked me if I would be willing to speak at another training meeting two weeks later. The next week, the pastor came to have coffee with me and the woman I was staying with. I told him about my plans to speak, and he asked, Who will interpret for you? When I replied, Gertraud will interpret for me, he said, Oh, let me interpret for you. I agreed, even though I was a bit intimidated by him; he was known internationally, and I was just a 20-year old girl who until then had never even been away from home, much less out of the country. This was my first time working with an interpreter, but he had done it many times and was very good at it. It was as if he knew what I was going to say before I even opened my mouth. More significant, was an incredible awareness that God was with me as I spoke, and that He was truly using me as a vessel to impart His truth to the people there. It went very well, to the point that afterwards the pastor said, Would you be willing to share this same thing with the entire congregation? Things took off from there, and I spent the rest of the summer involved in various aspects of ministry in the church in Berlin. After I returned to the States, I continued to stay in touch with the church, and the next summer God brought expansion to my ministry by opening the doors for me to speak in churches in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and France. My plan was to go to a huge rally, and sit in a crowd, with thousands of other people, as a spectator, more than a participant. That would have no doubt been exciting, but Gods plan was better. My desire was to sit in a stadium, but His desire was for me to minister everywhere from a huge cathedral in a big city, to a quiet retreat center in the Swiss Alps. His vision was much bigger than mine ever could have been. Doors of opportunity opened for me as I waited on the Lord for His timing and direction. 2006 by Rebecca Livermore, a Christian speaker and writer from Denver, Colorado. Relationship - Will You Grow Together Till Old Age?

By CD Mohatta In today’s age for a couple to think of growing together till old age looks difficult. The rate at which divorces are taking place and couples separate, it is a difficult task. This was not so, only two three decades ago. The changing norms have taken a big toll on the relationships. How about you? Do you believe that you will grow together till old age? The determination that we would not separate may play a big role. Once you have decided the goal - no separating, you will act towards achieving that goal. Please make this bond with your partner that you will not separate. I wish to add something here. When things are going smoothly, all such promises sound very good. As soon as a crack appears, the same looks very difficult. The need is to take care when the cracks appear. Why do the cracks appear? Miscommunication, Discords, Different views on very important matters, career problems, health problems, third person entering the relationship, and many other factors can play role in this. As time passes, distances may grow. The reverse also happens. But now days it seems that the earlier case occurs more often. Do you want to grow together till old age? Are you sure that your choice of partner is perfect for you? Is your partner also sure? Both of you have considered every factor? If there are any complaints, you are ready to sort them out? Do you keep the communication open? Do you love each other? What about caring? Please consider all these and draw plan so that separation becomes a very difficult possibility. Avian Flu: Do you want the Good News or the Bad News? Part II

By Dr Robert Gamble Avian Flu: The bad news first Well, it’s flu season again. Only this time, we hear everyone talking about avian fluthe Super flu which is expected to wreck havoc across our land in the not so distant months. So what is avian flu? Avian flu is bird flu. Yes, you read that right, “Avian flu is bird flu.” And why might that be such bad news? If you pursue the news much, you will read that the deadliest disease in history is widely regarded as the Spanish Flu epidemic which killed 40 million people in just months. Scientists now believe the epidemic was an avian flu pandemic. In other words, the virus came from birds - it is believed - and a virus similar to this one -called the “H5N1″ (a form of avian flu virus). Its origins? Most scientists agree it originated in Asia, as this one. Flu comes every season. It comes in one of two forms, Type A or Type B influenza. Type A is the more potent of these kinds of flu, and avian flu is Type A. These strains kill. The current avian flu bug is infecting and spreading throughout the poultry industry in Asia. Why so often in Asia? Simply putand here is a key to understanding how to deal with avian flu - poultry farms are absolutely filthy. The stench from such farms, especially those throughout Asia, can be detected a mile away. Those farms are packed with animals which are weak with compromised, weakened, immune systems. Let these two phrases sink in together: avian flu and weakened immune systems. Whether we are dealing with the aftermath of the horrible conditions and weakened immune systems of millions who survived World War I or the horrible conditions of Asian and European poultry farms and their millions of animals with weakened immune systems, the key to this potential pandemic is “weakened immune systems and avian flu”. Because of the rapid spread and highly dangerous nature of the avian flu to birds, millions of flocks have been destroyed throughout the afflicted countries. However, that is simply not working because migratory birds are carrying the avian flu to distant lands, thus spreading its contagion. Interestingly, the migratory birds are not dying like the chickens. Why? Because their immune systems are much stronger, we are told by scientists. Let that one sink in too: avian flu is not killing those animals so readily which have strong immune systems. Humavian flu and immune systemsCould be we have something here. Incidentally, there have been only about a hundred deaths from avian flu worldwide. It is almost impossible for avian flu to make the transition from bird to human easily. Avian Flu: Now for the really bad news Of course, as soon as there is the slightest danger -avian flu or otherwise -our government jumps into high gear to infect every one of us, if possible, with its antiviral drug program against the slightest hint of avian flu. To date, everyone of the influenza drugs have proven worthlessor worse, against avian flu or any other kind of flu. Note this statement from the former Chief Vaccine Control at the Federal Food and Drug Administration: There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. The producers of these vaccines know that they are worthless, but they go on selling them anyway. –Dr. J. Anthony Morris I wonder if this will apply to the alleged avian flu “antidote”. Note: The last few decades have seen a dramatic shift in fatalities from seasonal flu (some of which are avian flu). Researchers now know the increase in the population does NOT account for the doubling of the seasonal average death toll from flu (avian flu or otherwise). Less than 20,000 were dying per year for decades. But, since the advent of the flu shot, averages of over 40,000 people per year have been dying. Why? One suggestion is a combination of two factors: the continued impairment of the immune system of the average American as witnessed by the multitude of epidemic diseases among us (not present in appreciable amounts in previous decades). The second factor follows below (like the second Horseman of the Apocalypse). Let’s seeone thing we do know about flu vaccines. They are not proven to work No, two things we knowYes, yes. They can kill. Just as surely as the avian flu can kill. Many authorities believe the flu shot actually weakens the immune systemah, there it is againthe immune system weakened. Why is that? Let’s see. The ingredients in the flu vaccine (remember this when dealing with the avian flu) include: ” Formaldehyde, you knowembalming fluid known to cause cancer. ” Aluminum, the very metal related to Alzheimer’s disease, cancers of numerous types and traumatic seizures. ” Carbolic Acid: a terribly caustic poison. ” Ethylene Glycol: You will definitely need this fluid this winter, but please only use it as anti-freeze for your car, as it was designed to be used originally. ” Mercury: This is present in the vaccine ingredient called thimerosol. This is a known medical crippler and killer. It kills brain cells and immune cells and is linked to childhood brain and nervous diseases because of its use in VACCINES. ” Vaccines for use in avian flu are grown on virus strains developed from pus-laden animal tissue mixed with the above mentioned deadly chemicals. (Bulleted items: Special Report, “Bird Flu, H5N1″, Dr. Richard Schulze, November 2005, p. 12. Great “avian flu” resource.) Is it any wonder the drug companies involved sought to be legally protected from law suits by those who might use these drugs against avian flu? Forgive my skepticism, but I have seen from the inside of the medical/drug establishment, the fanatical zeal to make money as a first priority Been there, opposed that. Avian flu treatment will not be any different. Don’t count on the Hippocratic Oath to protect you from avian flu. There is big money in these drugs. Billions. And it is always suspicious when a drug company seeks lawsuit immunity (hum, appropriate wording here) BEFORE THE FACT (before its use against avian flu!) Avian Flu: Now for the good news (finally). Avian flu was not in view when this following statement was made. However, read it carefully with avian flu in mind. In Congressional testimony concerning the potential of bio-terrorism attack upon the United States, Dr. H. Reginald McDaniel stated, In instances of unusual, epidemic, or virulent infectious agent exposure, glyconutrient supplementation has been found effective for enhancing general immune functions and defense. When supplied at higher levels than available in nature, sugars needed for cellular synthesis can take innate defense systems to a much higher level that are effective against infectious agents. In other words, if we were attacked by an enemy with bio weapons -such as avian flu- we could find protection with glyconutrition. This is a powerful, non-prescriptive antidote possibility against avian flu. Glyconutrition enhances the immune system’s natural defenses so powerfully that cancers, flu, and other UNDER ACTIVE IMMUNE DISORDERS can be stopped. The evidence is already in place. There is no guesswork here. Avian flu is flu, Type A, precisely the kind of flu glyconutrition is designed to offset. Glyconutrition is effective - presumably against avian flu too - and has no side effects. It is a food substance, proven to be vital for human survival. There are no less than four Nobel Prizes to substantiate the presence and human need for glyconutrition. There is an abundance of evidence showing its effectiveness against all kinds of disease, including flu. It doesn’t attack the flu directly. It strengthens the immune defenses - killer T cells and others - and they kill the tumors, flu, herpes simplex, shingles, strep, TB, bacterial infections, cancers, parasitic diseases Quite a list of killers thus killed. So Guess what I am going to take to protect my family this year against avian fluif it develops? Dr. Robert Gamble is retired from a very successful medical/surgical career spanning three decades. He is active in researching medical issues such as glyconutrition and offers his insights for public benefit. Fifteen Ways To Find A Wife

By Billy Baker A fishing licence gives the holder the right to try to catch fish, equally a marriage licence gives the holders the right to suck it and see. To find the correct person to live with for the rest of your life can be a daunting task. Not only are you attempting to find your soul mate, but also probably the mother of your children. Fortunately the pressure on Henry V111 was far greater, he had six goes at getting it right. There’s a difference in the way that single girls and bachelors choose their future partners. The girl might have a dozen boyfriends, none of whom seems to be like another or anything like the sort of fellow she eventually ends up marrying. But the young bachelor is inclined to select all his lady friends, including his wife, for their similar qualities, statistically he tends not to deviate from his perceived pattern. 1. Borrow A Kid Women are suckers for men who appear to be good with children. Borrow a niece or nephew for the afternoon, and take them to the zoo or another suitable childish activity. If the child is still in diapers ask a woman you fancy to change them. However never take out a child you do not know well or one with whom you have not had time to build a rapport with. 2. Take Up Dancing Classes. As they say it takes “Two to tango”, get out and learn to dance. It is not important what type of dancing you choose you will meet other women. 3. Borrow A Dog. If you don’t have a dog, borrow one and take it to your local park, or beach. Empathy with animals bring people together. 4. Go To A Wine Tasting Club Telephone your local vitner, and see when he is next going to have a wine tasting, and relax and have a drink, and meet new friends. 5 Join A Self Help Group. A great one is a self help group for one parent families. Of course this is only going to work if you have children already. 6. Join A Charitable Organisiation. Nearly everyone has some sort of a charity near them, go to the library and ask them for a list of charities in your area. Then find one you have an interest in and phone them, and see if they need any volunteers. More women than men volunteer there time, and you will appear a caring person for giving up some time. 7. Join The Sierra Club The Sierra Club is a conservation organisation. Whilst it is mainly in Canada and the U.S.A., it does hold International events. It has a “singles” section on it’s homepage 8. Get To Know Yourself Write a 1500 word essay on the type of person you are and how you got to be where you are. Write about three hundred pages of yourimage of a dream woman. Describe her physically, and see if there is a pattern. Do you like the great outdoors, and want a healthy fit woman, then go and join a Local walking group. If you want to listen to Opera, then join an operatic society. 9. Network Widen your circle of friend, strike up conversations with strangers, and improve your circle of friends. You don’t even have to talk with women here, make new male friends and you never know who will introduce you to your next girlfriend. It might be a grandmother introducing you to her granddaughter. The more you collect people the wider your circle of friends and interests will get. 10. Get To Know What Makes A Woman Tick. Strike up conversations with women, and get to know what they are thinking. Women are always suckers for men who make them feel valued. This is one of the best tips I can give you. 11. Join An Aerobic or Yoga Class The vast majority of the members’ will be women. Get fit and have a laugh at the same time. 12. Take a Singles Cruise. Women are much more into single cruises than men, so the chances are that you will definitely be outnumbered. 13. Go To The make Up Counter Od A Big Store. Women buy make up all the time, now I am not suggesting you start to wear mascara, but go and but a present for your mother/sister. Even if you have not got family then go and ask a woman you are interested in what would be her idea of a perfect gift for your fictitious sister. 14. Evening Classes Go to your local adult centre for education and ask which classes are heavily subscribed with women. Yes I am aware that you are not going to be interested in finding ten ways to arrange a rose bowl, but their just might be something that grabs your eye. 15. Internet Personals Find yourself a dating site or even better two, and register your profile. A great tip here is that if you pay for a year up front, then it can substantially reduce your costs. The town Lihue holds most of the islands population in Coconut Coast, one of the most popular resort centers, and also Wailua, Hawaiis only navigable river. In fact, one of the most favored activities is the boat trips from Wailua to Fern Grotto. If you have a budget for a helicopter tour, you can observe the islands most beautiful scenery from the air and also soar high above some areas of the island which are not accessible by car. You will find that most resorts offer seven-day Kauai honeymoon packages, which also includes full facilities provided by the resort. Some of these enjoyable and relaxing facilities would be the interconnecting pools and lagoons, the vast variety of restaurants and lounges, extensive water sports centers, golf courses, tennis courts, large gardens and open air courtyards, horseback riding, fitness centers as well as full service health spas. A typical Kauai honeymoon package includes the traditional welcoming gesture to visitors with a flower lei greeting, airport transfer and hotel baggage handling, as well as luxury accommodations that are fit for royalty. For instance, Kiahuna Plantation (Outrigger) Condominium of Poipu Beach offers the fifth night free for honeymooners for stays of 5 or more days. On the other hand, the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort and Spa offers the sixth night free for stays of 6 or more days. In this exotic destination, nothing is too far away to visit as touring the whole island can be easily completed with a two hour car ride. All in all, Kauai honeymoons are about escaping the bustling and hectic city environment and enjoying each others company along the pristine beaches and within the tropical gardens of Kauai. During your stay beach activities such as snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing, scuba diving and sunset watching should not be missed. Finally, your Kauai honeymoon would be incomplete without sinking your teeth into the succulent fresh seafood for which Kauai is popular for. Apart from that, a visit to the breathtaking cliffs and valleys of the Na Pali coast, which is a popular filming location, should not be missed. These cliff formations with its panoramic views have been seen in blockbuster movies such as South Pacific, Blue Hawaii, and Jurassic Park. Ignite your Hidden Desires with Unsecured Personal Loans

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Carry]John Carry If any of your desires are remaining unfulfilled due to financial reasons then, unsecured personal loans can help you achieve them. Whether, it is the dream to own a Rolls Royce or to live in a villa apartment, all these desires can be fulfilled and realised with unsecured personal loans. Ideas On How To Use Container Gardening To Decorate Your House And Garden

By Mary Hanna Nearly every house and garden presents numerous attractive settings for container plants. Suburban gardens, estates, small city backyards, and summer cottagesall can be enhanced by this type of gardening. A few of the seemingly endless possibilities include entranceways, steps, courtyards, walls, rooftops, balconies, patios, breezeways, lawns, driveways, walks, sundecks, windowsills, porches, summer houses, even tree stumps can be utilized. Let us start with the entrance, a focal point for every house. A simple arrangement consists of similar container plants at each side of the doorway. If the house is informal, painted tubs will make a cheerful note, while urns or ornamental pots are more appropriate if the architecture is formal. The arrangement, however, need not be symmetrical, since a single container at either side, particularly if the doorway is off-center, is pleasing. A large specimen can be balanced by a grouping of small pots, and various other interesting combinations can be worked out. Sometimes, the front entranceway can qualify as an outdoor place for house plants, but be sure they are not exposed to strong sun and wind. Unexpected areas like side and rear entrances can also serve as backgrounds for pot plants in casual groupings. For sunny steps, consider tubs of petunias, or dwarf dahlias, or boxes of herbs to be used in cooking. Tuberous begonias, fuchsias, patient Lucy, and fragrant nicotiana solve the problem of what to grow in shade. Porches or verandas, traditional or contemporary in style, offer numerous settings for pots, window boxes, and hanging baskets. Indeed, the entire container garden can be concentrated there so that plants can be easily cared for. If the porch is open on three sides, it will afford exposures to suit a variety of specimens. The patio or terrace, beside or beyond the house, where family and friends gather to eat or relax, is an ideal location. If it is formal, select clipped evergreens and arrange pots in symmetrical rows, perhaps lined up against the house or along the edge of the terrace. If the site is informal, make casual groupings of one or two tall plants with smaller ones in front. Either way, allow for a few large plants in tubs or boxes for accent and height. Container plants may line walks and paths that lead to the house, garage, or garden. They can rest on paved areas along fences and walls and on driveways where they are not in the way. If the driveway adjoins the foundation of the house, plant containers may be placed there. Tops of garden or terrace walls are ideal places, too. Put small pots and boxes on tall, narrow walls and large containers on low, broad surfaces. Hanging plants of ivy geraniums in the sun and fuchsias in the shade will cascade from walls, as they do in the patios of Spain, Portugal, and Italy. On Rhodes, I recall a fifteen-foot wall topped with a row of thirty gleaming green tin cans full of roses and other flowers. Think of what you can do with rooftops and sundecks where considerable space is usually available. Here sun-loving plants, like geraniums, most annuals, cacti, and succulents can be grown, but, again, include large specimens for height to give a garden feeling. A few large boxes and planters for trees and shrubs are sufficient but be sure to include some evergreens for year-round green. Many gardeners like to insert container plants in flower borders to introduce unusual specimens, such as tropicals in the North. Large tubs can be set at the corners and small pots may be scattered among the permanent flowering plants. One gardener keeps a supply of potted pink Fiat Enchantress geraniums on hand to fill bare spots in her wide borders, moving them about as needed. Most of the geraniums are in four-inch clay pots, but there are larger specimens for the center of each grouping. Make sure their secure, sink pots a few inches into the ground. You can always dress up the lamp post in your yard with container plants at the base or you can suspend a hanging basket of lantana, perhaps from the top. Ivy geraniums in an old-fashioned black kettle are nice for the base. Bare posts that support sectional roofs over patios or paved surfaces of contemporary houses look more attractive if potted plants are clustered around the bases or permanent boxes for plants are built there. Try planting climbing ivy in a pot and train it to climb the posts. Novelty containersdonkey carts, wheelbarrows, and spinning wheelscan be fun in some places, but, of course, such planters must not be overdone. Usually they are set on lawns, on a terrace or beside a gate or doorway. (If you life in a neighborhood that has a house owners association check with them first to see if this is allowed). Steps leading to a driveway or street or to different levels in a garden can be emphasized with pot plants. A few can be arranged at the top or at the base of the stairs. And, there are other possibilities. Tree trunks cut to the ground or left a few feet high make good pedestals for large containers. In fact, this can be a solution to the problem of what to do with a trunk too expensive to remove. If you have a tree with heavy shade, why not construct a pretty sitting area around it and decorate the space with containers of coleus, wax and other begonias, caladiums, ferns and other shade-tolerant plants. These are just a few ideas for using container plants around your house and garden. Use your imagination and have fun. Happy Gardening! Copyright 2006 Mary Hanna All Rights Reserved. Marketing Lessons From Amazon

By Cathy Stucker You may not have the funds to build an e-commerce system on the scale of Amazon, but there are several lessons you can learn from them that will help you sell more, online and offline. Make it easy to buy. Amazon pioneered One Click Ordering, where customers shipping and credit card information is stored for future purchases. They make it easy to buy without pulling out your wallet and inputting a lot of data. Can you set up accounts or keep customer billing information available so they can buy with a phone call or a signature? Get others to sell for you. Amazon.com Associates was the first online affiliate program. Associates link from their Web sites to Amazon.com, and they are paid commissions for the sales they refer. Today, more than 900,000 Web sites send customers to Amazon.com. You can implement your own affiliate program with inexpensive software, or by using one of many services that will administer your program for you. Offline, reward customers who send new business your way with free products or services. Show related products. While shopping at Amazon, you will see suggestions such as Customers who bought this item also bought . . . Make displays of related products in your retail location, group products and accessories in your catalog, and list product suggestions on Web pages. Provide customized information. Amazon remembers what you buy and even the products for which you have shopped. Your shopping habits are used to provide personalized recommendations when you arrive at Amazon.com. You may be able to use features in your online shopping cart to make upsells based on the item purchased. Send e-mails or postcards to customers who bought certain products when you have a new product or service that might interest them. Encourage the growth of community. Customers can post reviews to any product page on Amazon.com. Want to recommend a favorite product, or warn others about a dud? Post a review. Although the system isnt perfect, you can get a lot of good information from customer reviews, and the availability of this information encourages customers to shop at Amazon. A user group or online forum can make customers feel a part of your community. Do what you do best. If you visit Borders.com, you will discover that it is run by Amazon.com. Borders decided that they did not want to reinvent the wheel when it came to e-commerce, and turned over their Web site to Amazon so they could focus on their brick and mortar stores. You can learn from both sides of this relationship. If something doesnt fit with your core business, outsource it. If there is something you do very well, consider offering the service to others, even your competitors. Everyone wins. Although you may not (yet) be a giant, you can learn lessons from the giants such as Amazon.com. Apply them to your business and increase your profits. Copyright Cathy Stucker.
